I have been wanting to make this for over a month. While I was cutting fabric for totes last night, I got re-acquainted with a fabric which I thought would be perfect as yoga mat bag.
FUN FACT: I made this the night I skipped yoga class. HEE.
YOU WILL NEED:
Okay, I didn’t have to post the picture above. I just wanted to brush up on my photoshop skills.
1. Measure the circumference and length of your rolled-up yoga mat.

That looks awesome! :D I’ve made a yoga mat bag once, but not for a yoga mat. ^^; It was for my A2 size drawings — there are these plastic black carrying tubes you can buy, but I figured I could make my own. (And one that could fold into itself when not in use! ^_^ )
I also LOL-ed at the “your bottom” part. x)

A space-saver tracing tube! Thats clever. :) I will mention that to my roommates. Three of them are architects. One is studying to be an architect. :D

I find the idea of sewing terrifying–something akin to doing magic–(& yes, I still have that pristine sewing machine present) but I do need a yoga mat and… I might actually try this, step by step by step…
Thank you!

What a great tutorial! Now I just need to find the right piece of fabric to make a yoga mat bag. Hopefully I can find something that’s getting tossed to give it a new life. ;)

Thanks for the great instructions! I just finished by bag yesterday. I added a piece of mesh sewn to the top (like those stupid mesh tshirts guys wore in the 80s…ick bad flashback…) to let it air out and it makes it easy to weave ribbon or thin rope thru and cinch. I recycled a spare badge strap (woven straps people attach their work badges to) for the tie and tighten it with a cinch-pinch button thing (no idea what they are called). I wish I had read all your instructions for all the good stuff you make–I might have used some light interfacing in the yoga bag too to keep it looking nice. Thanks again for sharing! :^)

Nice instructions – what a great alternative to a mass-produced mat bag. And this is coming from someone who sells them…

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not disappoint me as much as this particular one. After all, I know it was my choice to read, nonetheless I actually believed you would have something interesting to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of crying about something you can fix if you weren’t too busy looking for attention.
